wPOWER HUB JOINS IN THE LAUNCH OF NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND TOOLS AT PARIS CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

The wPOWER Hub at the Wangari Maathai Institute joined a panel of senior leaders in the energy sector to discuss and explore the opportunities and benefits of promoting women’s participation in the power sector during the 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP 21).

Building cleaner, more climate-resilient power sectors that serve all people will require the inclusion and participation of all stakeholders – including women, who have traditionally been sometimes sidelined from the energy industry. By scaling up the role of women in electricity sector dialogues and across the entire value chain, Women in African Power presents opportunities for both meeting women’s electricity needs and encouraging women’s participation in a vibrant economic sector. Power Africa is a partnership among African governments, the U.S. Government, the private sector, and the donor community that aims to double access to electricity in sub Saharan Africa.
